The Canton Men battled through a tough race, against Salem and Plymouth, and came away with their 2nd straight City Championship.Leading the way for Canton, and setting another Cass Benton course record, was Aiden Pengelly. His 15:26 beat his previous record by an amazing 25 seconds.The battle for second place was won by Steven Dusseau. He passed the last of his opponents in the last kilometer and finished at 16:17.After Plymouth took spots 3-6, Adam Dicken (16:39) and Ben Clark (16:43) finished 7th and 8th tying the score at 18. The race came down to the fifth runner and Canton’s Neel Bangera (17:25), Brayden Creedon (17:34), and Kam O’Donnell (17:37) were the next three to cross the finish line for the 27-30 victory.Kam’s time was a new personal best for the sophomore. Also running personal best times were Michael Harris (19:36) and Landin Watkins (24:23).The Cobras next race Friday is at Willow Metro Park in the River Rat Invitational.
More About City ChampionshipCanton Girls Swim & Dive competed at the Wayne County Championships on Saturday, Oct 5.The meet was held at the beautiful Trenton High School natatorium.Each of the Wayne County teams were invited to participate. Qualification times were required to previously be accomplished to participate. Canton Won 5 of the 12 events, and accomplished pool records in all 5 swims. Medley Relay: Hannah Gurgel, Tayla Smith, Ximena Murillo, Mina Kennedy200 IM was won by Hannah Gurgel with a school recorded time.100 freestyle was won by Tayla Smith400 freestyle relay: Amelia Pan, Hannah Gurgel, Abigail McAskin, Mina Kennedy Other great swims were:Amelia Pan in the 200 freestyle earning 2nd. More About Canton Girls Swim and Dive at Wayne County ChampionshipsAiden Pengelly wins County ChampionshipFor the first time in the history of the Wayne County Championships a Canton runner has crossed the finish line first. Aiden Pengelly ran a great race, beating the defending champion, and running the 2nd fastest time in school history.Despite missing a couple of key runners, the rest of the Canton Men finished in 3rd place. Steven Dusseau, Adam Dicken, and Ben Clark all medaled for the Cobras. Adam ran his fastest time of the season (16:33).Neel Bangera scored for Canton finishing 44th and ensuring the Canton team would take home a trophy.Running career best times for Canton were Matthew Collins (18:18), Ryan Guinn (21:11), Liam Hoban (21:06), Takeru Kikuta (18:13), Om Lakhani (21:32), Emerson McGuire (21:43), Josh Raoof (21:05), Landin Watkins (24:42).Canton races Salem and Plymouth on Tuesday, at Cass Benton, for the City Championship.

Cobra highlights:In the 200 freestyle Hannah Gurgel qualified for D1 state meet.In the 200 IM Jasmine Pham reached a season best.In 1 meter diving, Addy Miller placed second.In the 100 butterfly, Abigail McAskin had a personal best time.In the 500 freestyle, Mina Kennedy posted a season best time with a first place finish.Sidney Bennett, Michell Zhang.and Amya Bosanko both had a personal bestIn the 200 Freestyle Relay: Abigail McAskin, Ximena Murillo, Tayla Smith, Hannah Gurgel finished 1st.In the 100 backstroke, Amelia Pan finished first.In the 100 breaststroke, Tayla Smith had a D1 state qualifying time and Abigail McAskin had a season best. Canton's next meet is Saturday at the Wayne County Championships held at Trenton HS. 10am start.

Goalie Avery James (junior) had 3 amazing blocks protecting our goal. While senior, Ellie D’angelo, pulled out some impressive moves to defend the P-CEP goal. P-CEP goals scored by Teresa Smith (senior), Jaclyn Schlanser (junior), Emily Foss (junior) and Elizabeth Burnham (junior). P-CEP looks ahead to the rest of our busy week as we play Saline Wednesday, Chelsea Thursday, and Greenhills Ann Arbor Friday.
More About P-CEP Field HockeyCanton’s men’s cross country traveled to the Hanson’s Invitational on Saturday and came away with an invitational championship for the second year in a row. Canton put five runners in the top 19 places and grabbed eight total medals to take the championship.Leading the way for the Cobras was Aiden Pengelly. His 15:24 was a full 19 seconds ahead of the 2nd place runner. Aiden broke the Canton record for the invitational as well as the record for the course (Parkway Christian/Bethesda).Also scoring for Canton were Steven Dusseau (16:26), Ben Clark (16:37), Adam Dicken (16:37), and Clark Madden (16:38).Receiving Medals for Canton were Neel Bangera (17:31), Brayden Creedon (17:34), and Tobin Collins (17:34).Lots of PRs for the Cobras. JV worked hard and had some amazing passes and blocks preventing Dearborn from scoring. They could not get the ball in the net so the game ended with a 0-0 tie.The Varsity Panthers dominated the game winning with a mercy 8-0 in the 4th quarter. More About Canton Girls Swim & Dive at NorthvilleMonday 9/16P-CEP hosted Cranbrook on Monday 9/16 on the Canton Varsity Turf. JV fell 0-2. Varsity had many many shots on goal but just couldn’t sink one losing 0-1 when Cranbrook scored in the 4th.Wednesday, 9/18P-CEP JV and Freshmen hosted Ann Arbor Pioneer on our practice field at Discovery Middle School. Freshman lost 0-1 and JV fell 0-2 but not without an amazing effort.Thursday, 9/19P-CEP Panthers traveled to Brighton to take on the Bulldogs. P-CEP freshmen team had excellent passes and set ups but couldn’t get the ball in the net. Varsity sent the Bulldogs whimpering with a 3-0 win with scores from senior, Teresa Smith, senior, Natalie McCall, and junior, Elizabeth Burnham.Saturday, 9/20 SENIOR DAYP-CEP pulled out all the stops to claim a victory over Rockford for their seniors but fell short with a 1-2 loss. More About P-CEP Field HockeyWhat a day for the Canton Cobras Cross Country team. The boys traveled to the Jackson Invitational at Ella Sharp Park. After the fog and dust settled, Canton had a new school record, and had run 4 of the 13 fastest times in school history. Scoring in 5th place for Canton was Tobin Collins who shattered his personal best with a 17:15.In the four spot, Ben Clark ran the 13th fastest time in school history (16:18).3rd for the Cobras was Clark Madden (16:03). That blazing time puts him on the top ten board on the school.Steven Dusseau ran a blazing 15:57. He is the Fifth Canton runner to ever break 16 minutes and places him 3rd all time on the Canton record board.But it was Aiden Pengelly who stole the show with a new school record of 15:16.
