Tied Divine Child in what was the most exciting game of the day.
“We were down 6-1 at half. I will talk next a lot about one minute of play that I velieve defines our season and the effort and workhorses I had this year, but in that second half our defense really banded together to work their butts off to hold DC to 2 goals all half. It hurt our defense to have Delilah out due to a dirty play by TC in the game prior. She is a leader on our back line & the girls really listen to her, but Gillian filled those big shoes perfectly. The girls were a bit defeated to start the game due to being physically beaten/assulted by TC a couple hours prior, but that didn’t stop their focus to band together at halftime to bring it together, as a team, and get the game tied 7-7 with a minute and a half left. DC scored a quick goal after winning the next draw to put them up 8-7. Again, they won the next draw & with approx 45 seconds left we forced a turnover on our defensive end. We brought the ball up the field and Alexa Carroll made a great cut to get open. She received the ball just outside the 12 with less than 20 seconds on the clock, she shot and just as she shot the ref blew the whistle as the horn went off notifying everyone in the vicinity that the time had expired. We were all on the edge of our seats to see what the call was. It was a yellow card on DC for a check to the head right before the shot, which meant Alexa was allowed her 8 meter. Amped up with emotion she took the line, the whistle blew and Alexa burried the ball in the back of the net. It was a perfect way to end the season & if you had to sum our season up in one game this would be it! The beginning of the season we had our ups and downs, learning the game, building team chemistry & trust… it was just the way this first half played out with some in new positions / beaten mentally thinking the odds were against them with the calls made in the prior game flowing into the final game fo the day. The second half of the game shows exactly how the last half of our season was, ruthless as a team through the final seconds of the game. Alexa was new to lacrosse this season, she’s said for weeks how she wanted a goal, for it to be in the final seconds of the season with all eyes on her and pressure to tie the game I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to take that shot. She was hungry and wanted it more than anyone. She wasn’t going to accept anything other than that little yellow ball going in the back of the net. I am so proud to call this my team & look forward to their bright futures with lacrosse & whatever else they chose to pursue in life.” – Coach Flaherty
