The Canton men had a banner day at the State Finals on Saturday. All four qualifiers ran tough races and walked away with a PR or their 2nd fastest time ever. As a group, they ran four of the 13
fastest State Finals times in Canton history.
Aiden Pengelly put his seven straight victories up against the best in the state. Mixing in with the leaders at the mile mark, Aiden and two other runners broke away and pushed the pace to the entrance to the stadium (about 2.35 miles). As the other two runners broke away, Aiden fell to about 8 seconds out of 2nd place. But with about a tenth of a mile to go, Aiden changed gears and ran down the 2nd place runner taking the silver medal with an amazing 15:01. It was the best finish in school history, and shattered the Canton school record (Aiden’s).
2nd for Canton was Adam Dicken. Adam passed about 20 runners inside the stadium and finished with a new personal best 16:03. Adam is now the 3rd fastest senior and the 6th fastest runner in school history.
Steven Dusseau continued his remarkable Junior season finishing with 16:13. That is the 9th fastest Canton time ever at the State Finals. Steven finishes the season as the 3rd fastest Canton runner in school history (15:57 at Jackson), and 2nd to only Aiden on the schools to 50 Junior list.
Ben Clark finished his amazing Canton career with a time of 16:23 at the State Finals. That is the 13th fastest Canton time ever at the finals. Ben finishes his career as 13th fastest runner in school history.
Canton finishes its amazing 2024 season with two Invitational Championships and two JV Invitational Championships as well as a new school record. Great Season.
