Canton Girls Swim & Dive at the KLAA Conference Championships and Mustang Invitational:
 

Over the past two weekends the Canton Girls Swim & Dive have been competing at end of the season championships. In these two meets CGSD had 44 seasonal best times.

 
November 7-9th Canton competed at the KLAA Conference Championships at Novi HS. Each team is allowed 40 individual events. Prelims were on Thursday, Nov 7th. Anyone placing in the top 24 were invited to KLAA finals. Athletes were awarded scores from 1-32 depending on their place. Canton placed 4th behind Northville, Novi and Brighton.
 
In the 200 freestyle, Mina Kennedy (SO) dropped over a second placing 4th and scoring 26 points. Tatijana Shockling (SR) placed 16th scoring 11 points. Anna Park (JR) placed 24th after prelims. Amya Bosanko (JR) dropped an impressive 4.99 seconds placing 30th. Ella Strutton (FR) and Sydney Bennett (SO) placed 29th and 37th respectively.
 
In the 200 Individual Medley (IM), Amelia Pan (FR) scored 28 points placing 2nd with a personal best. Ximena Murillo (JR) scored 24 points placing 6th. Jasmine Pham (JR) dropped 2.84 seconds placing 8th and 22 points. Perisu Okuyucu (FR) also accomplished a personal best time in the event at 26th place.
 
In the 50 freestyle, Tayla Smith (Senior Captain) finished 2nd in the 50 freestyle with a seasonal best time. Abigail McAskin (FR) placed 14th scoring 13 points. Emily Craig (Senior Captain) placed 21st scoring 4 points and accomplishing a best time.
 
In 1 meter diving, Adelynn Miller (Senior Captain) placed 8th scoring 22 points and qualifying for regional dive competition Thurs, Nov 14 at Novi. Neve Sena (SR) placed 24th scoring the team a point.
 
In the 100 butterfly, Hannah Gurgel (JR) was Conference Champion scoring 32 points. Ximena Murillo placed 5th scoring 25 points. Anna Park placed 16th after prelims. Caitlin Gregory dropped an astonishing 6.12 seconds placing 22nd and scoring 3 points.
 
In the 100 freestyle, Amelia Pan scored 26 points placing 4th. Abigail McAskin dropped 2.96 seconds placing 10th and scoring 17 points. Emily Craig dropped 1.66 seconds and Isabel Ellinger dropped 2.34 seconds.placing 29th and 31st respectively.
 
In the 500 freestyle, Mina Kennedy dropped 3.48 seconds placing 2nd and scoring 28 points. Tatijana Shockling won the consolation heat placing 9th with a seasonal best time by dropping 6.10 seconds and scoring 20 points. Amya Bosanko had an amazing swim dropping 22.67 seconds placing 26th. Ella Strutton dropped 5.62, Perisu Okuyucu dropped 8.89, Michelle Zhang dropped 14.48, and Sydney Bennett dropped 9 seconds. Janavi Karath placed 37th with nearly a best time.
 
In the 100 backstroke, Hannah Gurgel was Conference Champion scoring 32 points. Jasmine Pham dropped 0.93 seconds and 23 points placing 7th.
 
In the 100 breaststroke, Tayla Smith placed 2nd scoring 28 points with a seasonal best time. Erin Yonker (JR) scored 12 points placing 15th. Michelle Zhang placed 20th scoring 5 points and dropping more than 2 seconds. Praanjal Pradeep (FR) placed 22nd and 3 points. Liv Williams placed 24th scoring a point. Lucy Gavin (Senior Captain) placed 26th dropping 2.60 seconds.
 
The Canton Cobras also placed 2nd in the Medley Relay, 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 400 freestyle relay all scoring 56 points each.
 

November 1 & 2 a portion of the CGSD team competed at the Mustang Invitational held at Northville. The meet isn't scored. The roster for this meet was composed of 16 girls that were not part of the limited 40 entries of the KLAA Championships. Swam up to four events, no more than two individual events.

 
In the 200 freestyle, Emma Edwards (FR) dropped 9.14 seconds accomplishing a personal best. Laureli Claerr (SO) swam the event for the first time this season.
 
In the 50 freestyle, Emma Flynn (JR) drop 1.03 seconds, Samaara Khan (JR) dropped 0.05, Vasmitha Karthikeyan (FR) dropped 0.94, Kalyah McElroy (FR) dropped 0.95, Niharika Pola (SR) dropped 0.47, Cataleya McCauley (FR) dropped 0.12, Valentina Raoof (SO) dropped 0.36, Joann Muppidi (SO) dropped an impressive 2.63 seconds. Felecia Ferracciolo (JR), Brynn Sturdy (FR), and Navya Rathor (FR) all came very close to season best times.
 
1 meter diving, Aminah Akbari (FR) competed on Saturday, Nov 2 completing upto 6 dives.
 
In the 100 butterfly Samaara Khan dropped 6.09 seconds. Valentina Raoof dropped an impressive 12.41 seconds in four lengths of butterfly.
 
In 100 freestyle, Peyton Szopko (SO) dropped 1.18 seconds, Laureli Claerr dropped 0.84, Joann Muppidi dropped 2.36 seconds. Brynn Sturdy also competed in the event with a near season best time.
 
In the 500 freestyle, Megan Michner (JR) dropped 6.30 seconds. Emma Edwards and Vasmitha Karhikeyan both competed for the first time in the event of swimming 20 lengths of the pool without stopping.
 
In the 100 backstroke, Emma Flynn dropped a marvelous 3.77 seconds, Megan Michner dropped 3.17.
 
In the 100 breaststroke, Peyton Szopko dropped 1.94 seconds, Kaliyah McElroy dropped a staggering 11.18 seconds, Niharika Pola dropped 0.69, Navya Rathor dropped 4.08 seconds. Cataleya McCauley and Felecia Ferracciolo swam the event for the first time this season.  
 
Canton has 5 individual state qualifiers:
Hannah Gurgel (200 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 100 fly, 100 free, 500 fr, 100 back, 100 breast)
Amelia Pan (200 free, 200 IM, 100 free, 100 backstroke)
Tayla Smith (50 free, 100 free, 100 breaststroke)
Mina Kennedy (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle)
Ximena Murillo (100 butterfly)
Each of these girls and Jasmine Pham, Tatijana Shockling, and Abigail McAskin will compete in relays.
