Fast Start for Men's Track & Field!
Posted on 04/18/2025
The 2025 season is off to a fast start for the Canton Men's Track & Field Team.
The new-look Cobras opened with a dual meet against defending KLAA Champion Northville. After 16 events and with scoring tied at 66, Northville finally edged the Canton boys in an exciting 4x400m relay finish. Two weeks later, in another dual meet that came down to the final 4x400m relay, Canton evened their record to 1-1 with a win against Novi, 72-65.
The Cobras distance runners outscored Novi 30-2, with Adam Dicken and Steven Dusseau combining for 22 points. Sophomore hurdler Grant Szetela chipped in 10 points with wins in both hurdle races.
In a pair of weekend invitationals, the Cobras shined even brighter. Canton bested 10 other teams to win the Livonia Franklin Patriot Relays. No less than 30 men contributed to the team's 73-point total. Canton scored wins in the 4x1600m Relay, Distance Medley Relay, and Pole Vault Relay.
Finally on April 12th, Canton bested more than 30 teams to win the overall title at the Oak Park Spring Classic Invitational. Notable competing schools included 2024 State Champion Kalamazoo Central, and 2024 State 3rd Place Belleville. Leading scorers were Adam Dicken and Aiden Pengelly, who contributed 35 of the 76 team points.
At Oak Park, a new school record was set in the 4x200m relay by the quartet of Quincy Isaac, Jayden Thompson, Aaron Coleman, and Nathan Gilmour. A second school record was set by Isaac in the long jump. Quincy's leap of 25'2.25" not only ranks #2 among all 2025 US Outdoor performances, but also ranks #2 in Michigan state history.
Come see the Cobras at home as we dual Salem on April 22nd. We hope to see you there!
